STEVE MORRIS FIREFIGHTER
- AVALON HELP IN RECOVERY THERAPY

Bolton Green Watch attended a
serious house fire in June and whilst attempting to rescue a
family trapped inside, one of our firefighters was seriously
injured. On Friday 3rd October he was honoured, along with
the rest of his Watch, at an awards ceremony for their
courage and bravery.
Fatal fire
On June 23rd 2008, Firefighter Steve Morris was seriously
injured whilst attempting to rescue a family from a house
fire in the Great Lever area of Bolton. Tragically two
members of the family later died.
Steve suffered 50% burns to his body, full thickness in some
areas and his hands were very badly burnt.
Tower FM Local Hero and Heroes Award
On Friday 3rd October 2008, the Tower FM awards took place
in Bolton. Steve Morris was the winner of the prestigious
Local Hero award for displaying courage and self sacrifice
in the face of danger and adversity. Steve remains in
hospital so was unable to receive the award in person so
fellow firefighter and friend Carl Haslam accepted it on his
behalf.
Later in the evening Steve and his colleagues from Bolton
Green Watch were also awarded the Heroes Hero award.
He has been recovering now for 19 months and he has set up a

completed for charity
in just 7 days

Three intrepid members of
Astley Park Fitness Centre covered over 900 miles
from Lands End to John 'O' Groats in just 7 days. They put a
large proportion of their success to the help from Avalon

WBU World Welterweight Title at the Millenium Stadium,
Cardiff in front of 35,000 boxing fans.
Michael attributes some of his success to the help of Avalon
